FTL Log Entry 8

Captain's Log, Day 8:

We arrived at the source of the distress beacon to find a small research lab.  Our sensors picked up a rather large heat spike from the inside - apparently the lab was on fire and the onboard suppression system wasn't responding.

We couldn't just stand by and watch as these people died.  With the apparent size and intensity of the blaze, there wasn't time to mount a separate rescue mission, so we pulled the ship right up next to the station and cut through the hull, attempting to vent some of the atmosphere and create a path for the lab crew to evacuate.

That didn't exactly work out as planned.  While we were able to rescue a few of the scientists, many more were sucked out into the vacuum of space.  The hole we cut was too large.  It wasn't Bjorn's fault, but he isn't taking it well.  We salvaged 10 scrap pieces from the wreckage and dropped off the survivors at a nearby station.

One Engi, by the name of Jones, decided to join our crew.  He smelled like a bonfire, or maybe a barbeque, but I know that was just the smell of his coworkers, his friends, burning as they tried to keep the station together.  He assured me that the deaths weren't our fault and that we did everything we could to assist.  His words comforted me slightly, but the looks of fear on the crew sucked out to space will stay burned in my memory for years to come, if I can forget it at all.
