FTL Log Entry 6

Captain's Log, Day 6:

Whoever placed these jump beacons is a moron.  Or a jackass.  We exited FTL near yet another star, with an automated Rebel scout in orbit.  It immediately began powering its weapons and began heading our direction.

Bjorn started charging our weapons and my first thought was to target their shields immediately.  Apparently, these automated scouts are impervious to solar flares (where can WE get that plating?) and I was informed that disabling their weapons platform would drastically decrease the danger we were in.  That became the new plan, and I rerouted the power from the medbay back into the engines for as much oomph as we could muster.

The automated ship fired a missile and a laser simultaneously.  Luckily, the shields were able to absorb the laser blast.  Unfortunately, their missile was a direct hit to the shield generator.  Pipaluk immediately began repairs, but things were beginning to look bad.  Our return fire was semi-effective; we were able to penetrate their shields and do some damage to their weapons, but their missile system remained active as not all of our first volley landed on target.

To add insult to injury, the first solar flare took out our sensors and started fires in the sensor and shield generator rooms.  I called for Aisha to put out the fire and begin repairs on the sensors while Pipaluk dealt with the deteriorating status of the shield generator.  In the meantime, the Rebel scout managed to fire another missile, resulting in another direct hit to our shield generator.  In the words of Star Trek's Scotty, "I don't know how much longer she can take it."

Our second laser burst managed to land two hits on the enemy's weapon systems, effectively rendering them inoperable.  I ordered Bjorn to focus fire on their shield generator in the hope of eliminating this scout before another solar flare could strike.  The third burst blew up the enemy ship right as we were rocked by a second solar flare, starting yet another fire in the shield generator room.  With the fires blazing hot as they were, I routed the unused shield generator energy into the medbay and had Aisha and Pipaluk take cover there while I vented the shield generator room to space.

Fortunately we picked up a store only one jump away, so that's where we set our course.  We were able to salvage 3 fuel cells, a drone, 17 scrap, and an augment to the weapon systems that would allow them to fire when cloaked, then jumped.
