FTL Log Entry 2

Captain's Log, Day 2:

As our luck would have it, we emerged from our first FTL jump and were immediately accosted by slavers demanding one of my crew.  I'll be damned if I give up a crewman to a slaver.  I immediately had Bjorn start charging up our weapons, and told Aisha to be ready to perform some evasive maneuvers.  Unfortunately, with our current fitting, we had to reroute all power from our med-bay to fully power the engines and weapons.

Upon seeing that they were equipped with a missile launcher, my first instinct was to target their weapon systems in the hope that we could disable them before they got a shot off.  They were able to fire a missile and a laser volley at us.  Our shields absorbed the laser blast, and we managed to avoid that missile, but it was a close call.  Once our weapons were charged, we immediately returned fire, with direct hits from both our missile launcher and burst laser.

It was then that the slavers offered up one of their slaves as a tribute and sign of surrender.  While I'm against slavery, personally, they raised the point that if we killed them, the slaves on their ship would all die anyway.  Is it worth destroying their ship, killing untold innocent slaves in the process, if it meant that these slavers would never hurt anyone else?  We took the deal, hoping that we hadn't done more damage than good, but we need the crew.

They sent over an Engi by the name of Pipaluk.  I released him....her....it, I can never tell with these machine people, from the shackles immediately.  I told him that he was free to leave but also explained our mission and what it could mean for the other Engi colonies if we succeeded.  He then commented that he would be happy to help us defeat the Rebels, and took up a post in the shield room, helping to optimize the shield power and recharge rate.  Those things certainly know their machines, don't they.
