FTL Log Entry 3

Captain's Log, Day 3:

As if slavers weren't enough.  Today's jump brought us face-to-face with some pirates blockading a remote settlement.  We were hailed immediately and told to "stay out of this" or we would be next.  Well, I'm not the kind of person to stand idly by while civilians are made to suffer.  We powered out weapons and stood up for the little guy.

As soon as our weapons began to charge, the pirates broke away from the planet and set an intercept course for us.  We evaded their first laser burst, and returned fire focused on their weapon systems.  With their weapons disabled, our next target was their shield generator.  The volley took out their shields and we registered their FTL drive start charging.  I wasn't about to let the pirates get away, so we focused the next laser burst on their engines.  They apparently got their weapons systems repaired slightly, but our burst laser volley took out their engines (and subsequently their ship) before they could return fire.

We picked through the remains of the pirate ship to see what we could salvage.  We found 3 unused fuel cells, a deactivated drone, and about 22 scrap pieces.  Upon contacting the settlement, we were told that our assistance was appreciated, but they expected more predatory ships in the future.  They gave us 3 more fuel cells, another deactivated drone, and 11 scrap pieces before apologizing that they couldn't send us more.  I told them that we were just glad they were safe for now, thanked them for the extra material, and we set off for the next beacon.
