FTL Log Entry 17

Captain's Log, Day 17:

We came out of FTL and were immediately assaulted by alarms ringing throughout the ship.  We had emerged into what appeared to be a ship graveyard.  Empty hulls were scattered as far as we could see.  Granted, we couldn't see very far due to the nebula, but still.  The ships looked like they had been blown apart, we had stumbled on the remnants of some ancient battle.  Some of the ships looked older than I thought even possible.

We scanned what we could in an effort to locate something worth salvaging.  Aisha swore she saw something moving out there, but everyone else was convinced it was just her imagination.  We couldn't have been more wrong.  All of a sudden, lights flickered on what we thought was debris.  It was an automated scout ship - our scanning must have reactivated it.

Bjorn targeted the enemy weapons while Aisha and I focused on trying to evade as much incoming fire as possible.  We hoped to disable their weapons before they got a shot off, as the ship had ion weapons.  They managed to fire, but luckily their laser was absorbed by our shields.  The ion blast took out our shields for a short time, but we didn't take any structural damage.

Our first volley destroyed their weapon systems, so it was just a matter of time until the ship was destroyed.  The autopilot on these ships must be a fairly rudimentary version, as it wasn't very effective at avoiding our shots.  Once we took out the shields in the second volley, it was only two more and we were clear.  We salvaged a fuel cell, a missile, and 20 scrap, but kept our eyes constantly on the horizon.  Getting ambushed once was enough for me.  We set our course for a local distress beacon and set off.
