FTL Log Entry 23

Captain's Log, Day 23:

We arrived only to find our systems alight with warnings.  A nearby pirate had locked onto us and, using some advanced hacking software, attempted to shut down our engines.  I'm glad Aisha is as good as she is, she was able to keep them up and running enough that we weren't just sitting ducks.

They also seemed to have advanced shielding technology that we couldn't teleport through, so our immediate course of action was to target their shields and weapons systems.  When our entire laser volley was absorbed by this shield, I knew something wasn't right.  They retaliated with two laser blasts.  One was absorbed by the shield, the other hit our airlock.  I made a mental note to update our shields once we had more parts.

Pipaluk ran a scan, and apparently they were using Zoltan shielding - apparently it's a shield that's powered by FTL engines during jumps.  We could sure as hell use that.  We focused entirely on taking the shield down.  Jones fired a missile, which was absorbed by the shield, but appeared to drain it of the last of its superior strength.  With that taken care of, Jones targeted their weapon systems so we could avoid further damage to the hull.

They got another round of shots off, but this time they were further apart.  That slight delay was enough for Pipaluk to recharge the shields before the second shot hit.  Our retaliation took out their weapons, and I immediately sent Bjorn and Fleischy onto the enemy ship to work them from two angles.

They teleported into the enemy weapon room, which we had apparently set ablaze.  They ran from the flames into the shield generator room, hoping to give us an edge.  The room was small, which was great, tactically.  There wasn't a whole lot of room for them to move, but they would have to be engaged one-on-one.  The pirate ship appeared to consist solely of one human and one engi.  Fleischy barely came out on top, but Bjorn had no problems dispatching his engi enemy.  Once the enemy crew were defeated, we salvaged 3 fuel cells and 23 scrap from the ship.

Back aboard the ship, we had a discussion about boarding strategies while Bjorn and Fleischy healed up in the medbay.  It was decided that, while shields would be important, if we were to be able to board enemy ships successfully, we would need to upgrade our sensors to see where we should and shouldn't teleport to.  In the meantime Aisha repaired the engines, bringing them back up to full.  We spent 25 scrap upgrading the sensors, and set a course for the last beacon we would be able to hit before the exit, where we knew the Rebels would be waiting for us.
